Life as a Single Mom

I’m always on the lookout for more resources aimed at single parents, especially moms. Here you go, ladies. A national ministry just for you. If you feel the need to join a support group, they’ve got it. They also have a newsletter, online communities, special events, even a page for single dads.
Speaking of special events…In September, the ministry hosts a national conference in Baton Rouge. You can get all the details at http://thelifeofasinglemom.com/

Embracing my life

“A deep sadness settles over me.”
Has God ever asked you to sacrifice something that meant a lot to you, but you knew it wasn’t pleasing to Him? For instance, a relationship? But you resisted, knowing it’d hurt. I can relate. When God asked that of me, it felt like He was asking me to cut off a finger just because it might get infected.
For three weeks, I heard God’s warning alarm sounding in my spirit. “Caution: Danger ahead,” He kept telling me. When I finally heeded Him, life was no better. How baffling. I thought God would reward my obedience by making me feel better. I was a little perturbed, even wondering if I’d made a terrible mistake.
Then I came across this article today, and oh boy, I needed it. If you’ve experience loss recently, I hope it edifies you as it did for me.

Meet Author Angela Couch!

Hey folks, especially you historical romance lovers, there’s an author out there you are going to want to meet! She hails from the Great White North. To keep from freezing, Angela K Couch cuddles under quilts with her laptop. Winning short story contests, being a semi-finalist in ACFW’s Genesis Contest, and a finalist in the International Digital Awards also helped warm her up. As a passionate believer in Christ, her faith permeates the stories she tells. Her martial arts training, experience with horses, and appreciation for good romance sneak in there, as well. When not writing, she stays fit (and warm) by chasing after three munchkins.
You’ll find Angela on social media and her website:

The newest release in her Hearts at War series is titled The Patriot and the Loyalist, and takes place during the American Revolutionary War. I must admit, I’ve rarely read any books from that era, so this should be a real treat.

Happy reading, friends ~

How to enable (not empower) your adult children

I had to share this, having learned this lesson long before my sons reached adulthood. I like to think I empowered my sons for adulthood (they’re all in their 20s now) but even now, it’s easy to jump in and try to “fix” things each time they encounter a difficulty.
Single moms, I’d love to know – would you consider yourself an empowering mom, or an enabling one? Or maybe a combination of both?

Introducing Moonstone Secrets – sequel to Sapphire Secrets
Dear readers,
You asked, and I’ve delivered! The sequel to Sapphire Secrets is almost ready to go to press! I will be sending it to my editor this week for final edits, and soon I should have a new cover to reveal! I expect another month will elapse by the time the book is all laid out and ready for publication.
Curious as to what it’s about? Read all about it here. But I can give you a hint. It’s a murder mystery; and a spooky, deserted log cabin, much like this one, figures prominently.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Another New Year?

But he was a good person…
This story by fellow author Lillian Duncan tells of a good guy, a really good guy, who stood before the Lord of heaven and found out just how good he had to be in order to enter heaven.
From time to time, I write flash fiction–whenever it flashes in my mind. Here’s my latest piece.
BUT HE WAS A GOOD PERSON…
Rocko Smith III was born a fortunate man.
One could even say born with a silver spoon in his hand.
But he was a good person.
He didn’t squander or waste.
Instead he did his best posthaste.
Unlike others in his class.
He didn’t party hard and fast.
He worked hard and did good deeds.
He truly was a good person but…
One bad choice he made.
Or should I say one good choice he didn’t make.
But he was a good person…
The car circled the public square for the third time. The Christmas lights sparkled and blinked merrily but Rocko wasn’t there for the decorations. His gaze went past the bright lights and peered into the shadows.
He tapped the driver’s shoulder. “Pull over, Jives.”
